In the state of Wyoming, Emergency Medical Service providers have saved so many people’s lives over the years. Most of the EMTs in the state of Wyoming are either full time or part time workers. There are about one third of the EMTs in the state of Wyoming work as volunteers. Emergency Medical Technicians receive their certification on either three levels; namely basic level, intermediate level and paramedic level. In the state of Wyoming, all prospective students must have a CPR card or a card from the American Red Cross to determine training eligibility. Most training programs require that the student pass a drug screening test and a criminal background check. All EMTs have to be 18 years old or more and must possess a high school diploma or GED.
To enter the Intermediate and Paramedic level, the student must have already completed the basic level training. In the state of Wyoming, the basic emergency care is unique to the state. This type of training is for prospective students that want to gain more knowledge about pre-hospital medical care. Only individuals who are a part of a first response unit can take this course.
The basic level training course has a duration time of forty hours and is the Department of Transportation develops and approves the course. The EMT-B or basic level course was developed by the EMS Office in the state of Wyoming. The one hundred and sixty hours of training includes classroom lectures and lab time.
The state of Wyoming also offers Intermediate level training and paramedic level training. The intermediate training is diverse and incorporates different emergency care methods to assist students in learning to do manual defibrillation, administer IV therapy, cardiovascular crisis and advanced management of airway blockage.
