Whether you are a resident of Providence, Warwick, Cranston, Pawtucket or anywhere else in the state of Rhode Island, the information below should be relevant for what you need.
The final exam at this cardiac level is the only exam that is administered by the Department of Health in the state of Rhode Island. The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) administers, approves and monitors the final exams for EMT-basic students and paramedic students.
Students taking the National Registry exam have to do both a practical section and a computer-based section with multiple choice questions. To receive an EMT license in the state of Rhode Island and also receive nationally recognition as an EMT, the student must successfully pass this exam. The EMT cardiac final exams only take place once each month and students are accepted based on availability.
The EMT basic level of training teaches students how to manage respiratory problems, how to handle trauma, cardiac arrest and assessment of patients. Students also learn how to handle emergency devices like backboards, oxygen tanks, stretchers and suctions.
The EMT cardiac training program is considered to be an intermediate level course in the state of Rhode Island. Students will learn how to administer medication, manage shock, administer CPR and deal with biohazards. The training curriculum consists of laboratory work, lectures (didactic classes) and hands-on training. To receive full certification as an EMT Cardiac, the student has to successfully pass both the practical and written test that the Rhode Island Health Department administers and monitors.
The Paramedic training course is more advanced and can take between one to two years to complete.
