It was only three years ago in July 2008 that First Responders were implemented into Oregon Administrative Rule. If you live in the state of Oregon and you are interested in becoming an EMT or First Responder, you have to take a training course that is approved by Department of Transportation in the state of Oklahoma. A course-approved instructor must teach the course. To take the basic level training course if you want to become an EMT in the state of Oklahoma, you must hold a CPR certification or a basic life support certification from the American Red Cross.
The basic level training course in the state of Oregon has a duration time of approximately forty eight hours that includes lab time and classroom lecture. All schools have to complete the appropriate form to become approved by the Department of Transportation to teach one of these EMT training courses. If you want to become a course director, you must have taken and successfully passed the final EMT exam for certification, have at least three years experience in pre-hospital medical care and have a CPR instructor license.
In the state of Oregon, EMT basic training course is independently taught by approved institutions. The course is broken up in two sections with up to thirty six hours of lab time and forty eight hours of lecture. Students will learn about how to handle traumatic and medical emergencies.
