There are two levels of training for EMTs in the state of North Dakota. These are the basic level of training and the paramedic level. The EMT-basic level allows student to learn skills related to performing life support on individuals who are ill or in an injured state during an emergency situation.
The EMT-Paramedic training teaches students the necessary skills to perform more advanced methods of life support for those who are injured or ill during an emergency situation.
In the state of North Dakota, the EMT-Basic training program, students will be able to assess and stabilize the patient, manage blocked airways, administer oxygen, treat shock, perform delivery during childbirth, and put on splint, bandages and backboards.
The duration of EMT training in the state of North Dakota is 180 hours of lecture and 24 hours of clinical time. The EMT-Intermediate training program prepares students on skills related to more advanced techniques than the basic level does. The EMT-Intermediate training class last for about 256 hours of combined classroom and clinical time.
In the state of North Dakota, students who have completed at least 110 hours of required training will take their final examination for certification using the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) tests and scores.
