In the state of New Mexico, people who want a career as an EMT can receive the appropriate training. There are various levels of Emergency Medical Technician in the state of New Mexico. The levels of training that are covered are
- First Responders,
- EMT-Basic level,
- EMT-Intermediate level and
- Paramedic level.
The first level, which is the basic level, is where all EMT prospective students have to begin to get to the higher level, which is the Paramedic level. There are EMTs that work in a hospital setting and other medical setting; not only on ambulances.
In the state of New Mexico, there are several approved training schools that students can choose from. In some rural areas, a lot of fire departments provide free EMT training for volunteers.
There are various levels of EMT training that includes the basic level, intermediate level and paramedic level. During the basic level EMT training, students will learn the fundamentals of operating as an EMT. This includes learning how to assess the patient, how to stabilize the patient, how to administer CPR, how to handle emergency childbirth, how to handle treatment of infants and children, and how to apply the backboard, splints and bandaging. Basic EMT training will usually have a duration time of 180 hours of lecture and lab work. The intermediate EMT training course has a duration time of 150 hours and the paramedic level is much longer. The state of New Mexico oversees the final practical and written exam. These are not computer-based.
